My Birth Story by Mandymai
I went into hospital on the 4th of September 2007 at 7pm to be
induced. My twins were going to be 4 weeks early, but I had been
told they were big babies and they were fine to be born now. The
consultant came to give me my first lot of gel and examined me.
She told me I was 2cm dilated, so wouldn't be needing the gel. My
other half went home and I told him to leave his phone switched
on. I was really nervous, in a few hours I would be a mum again
only this time to two babies.
Nothing happened overnight so the consultant told me she would
be breaking my waters at about 11am. OMG. They took me to the labour
ward at 11am and finally broke my waters at 12ish. I remember thinking
"wow this isn't as bad as I remember". After my waters
were broken things went along at a nice pace. My midwife Cathy,
Mark and I were chatting about names and I was trying to have a
walk around . I kept getting tangled up in my drip they had put
in to speed up my labour and we kept laughing about it, but then
all of a sudden from nowhere I was getting quite strong and VERY
regular pain.
I said that I would like the gas and air. It felt like heaven but
the mouth piece kept dropping off and I was getting very frustrated.
The midwife examined me and I was about 8 cms. I had a really stong
contraction and I said I needed to push. They told me what was going
to happen - once twin 1 was out I would feel alot of pressure on
my tummy because twin 2 was high up and breech. I got very scared
and was panicing at this point and all I kept saying was that I
wanted Mark to have skin to skin with the baby and kept telling
him to take off his shirt to be ready.
Suddenly there were loads of people there. I gave a couple of pushes
and Callum Mark was born at 3.07pm. I was shown him quickly then
all hell broke loose. I was really scared I had people scanning
me to see where twin 2 was, I had people pushing on my stomach,
I had a consultant with his hand up my &%**) trying to pull him
out. I was begging for them to get him out and then I heard someone
say get her to theatre now. When I was taken to theatre Mark was
holding my hand but I was so upset I told him it was all his fault.
At my 35 week check I had asked my consultant for a section. She
had said there was no need, even though twin2 was breech. Mark told
me not to make a fuss the doctor knew what she was talking about,
so I didn't pursue it. Now here I was being rushed to theatre for
an emergency c-section and I was blaming Mark.
I
got to theatre and the next thing I knew, I was been woken up by
a nurse asking if I would like to see my sons. Cameron David was
born at 3.37 by emergency section. Mark said that he thought he
had lost us both. Unbeknown to me, I had a massive haemorrage whilst
in theatre and lost 4.5 litres of blood. They kept losing Camerons
heartbeat and he had to have oxygen after he was born. Then they
both had to have antibiotic through a canular as I had group B strep.
It was bad watching them putting the canular in as Camerons kept
falling out. I stayed on the labour ward that night and they bought
Mark a matress so he could stay with me as I couldn't get up to
the boys due to the doses of morphine I was getting.
The midwifes were great every time the boys needed feeding Mark
would feed the one and midwife would feed the other. Thinking about
it that was the last full nights sleep I had !!!! We stayed in Hosptal
for 3 days then I begged to go home I'd had enough hospital food
to last a life time.
Callum Mark was born at 3.07pm weighing 7lb 13 oz on the left in
the pic Cameron David was born at 3.37pm weighing 7lb 8oz on the
right. Here they are at 7 mths old, and eating me out of house and
home! Amanda (Mandymai) x
