Twins
Tales: The Magic and Mystery of Multiple Birth
School Library Journal
wrote: Donna Jackson blends scientific
facts with interesting personal anecdotes to create
an informative and intriguing look at twins. The text
is clearly written, and the tone remains lively throughout.
Separate chapters on identical and fraternal twins present
a clear idea of the differences and similarities between
these sibling sets. Other subjects include conception
and birth, multiple births, and nature/nurture studies
of twins separated at an early age.

Toddler Taming
Many toddlers can be wilful, stubborn
and hyperactive, and yet parents often believe they
are alone in experiencing such difficulties. This guide
to childcare includes practical advice that has been
tried and tested by many parents and toddlers over a
period of 15 years. The author acknowledges the strains
of bringing up children, and seeks to calm fears of
"abnormal" bad behaviour and boost parents' confidence
by offering reassurance and help. The book points out
the strains of bringing up children and offers practical
advice on all fronts from discipline to sleeping problems,
tantrums to toilet training.
This book has been highly recommended by many
of our twinsclub visitors.

Having
Twins
Twinsclub.co.uk

Of all the twins books I have this is the one I wished
in some ways I hadn't read during pregnancy - it was
passed on to me by someone. It is v.informative (terminology
and case histories all from USA) but verging on so much
info that u can start to worry about everything going
wrong... - the chapter on stillbirths, when one twin
dies etc. etc. (with photos!) was not what I wanted
during the lead up to the birth. Fascinating in some
ways but scary too.

Twins
& Multiple Births
Twinsclub.co.uk

have several books on twins but this was the only book
I read before I gave birth to my two boys. I know it
has to cover all angles both the good and bad but by
the time I had finished I began to wonder how I would
cope with these two monsters it seemed I would be giving
birth to. I have re-read it since and I know realise
that most of it is a worse case scenario and that most
twins aren't that bad but at the time it had me worried.

The
Art of Parenting Twins
Janet Poland
(the author) wrote: My
earlier books have focused on young children, so I particularly
enjoyed the work Pat and I did on adolescents for "The
Art of Parenting Twins." That's especially true
because my own boys are 15 and 17, and I need all the
insights I can get! All teens have to work out issues
of identity and intimacy; how to stay close to Mom and
Dad and yet be separate from them. Twins have an even
bigger job because they have to go through the same
process with their twin sibling, as well. It was fascinating
to talk to teenagers (and former teenagers) about how
the push-pull of those years plays out in multiple families.

A reader wrote:
If You Are Expecting Twins (or More), Get This Book!
My husband and I are expecting twins. We have read about
five different books regarding pregnancy, birth and
raising multiples, but this was the best book by far.
It includes an incredible amount of practical information,
including a great set of check lists that will help
you prepare for birth. This is the book that I recommend
to every couple that I know who are expecting more than
one baby.

The
Parents' Guide to Raising Twins
(January 2004) Twinsclub
visitor Susan Monk wrote this review:
The Parents guide to raising twins is
absolutely fascinating. I was unable to put the book
down. To have so many tales from multiple families let
you know that at some point someone else out there felt
exactly like you! Only problem was I bought the book
as it was written by two british women and when it was
delivered it had been americanised so all the twins
clubs info and support groups were from the US.

Solve
Your Child's Sleep Problems
Amazon.co.uk wrote:
When your child isn't sleeping, chances are that you
aren't either. Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems--the
tired parent's essential reading for more than 10 years--offers
valuable advice and concrete help when lullabies aren't
enough to lull your child into dreamland. Based on Ferber's
research as the director of Boston's Center for Pediatric
Sleep Disorders at Children's Hospital, the book is
a practical, easy-to-understand guide to common sleeping
problems for children aged one to six. Detailed case
histories on night waking, difficulty sleeping and more
serious disorders such as sleep apnea and sleepwalking
help illustrate a wide variety of problems and their
solutions. New parents will benefit from Ferber's proactive
advice on developing good sleeping patterns and daily
schedules to ensure that sleeping problems don't develop
in the first place. You'll also find a bibliography
of children's books on bedtime, sleep and dreaming,
as well as a list of helpful organizations. Here's a
book that is sure to put you and your whole family to
sleep--in this case, that's a good thing.

When You're Expecting
Twins, Triplets, or Quads : A Complete Resource
A reader from London
wrote: I am still in the first
trimenster but so far am so glad I found this book early.
It is my first pregnancy and I found the other books
I had found had no or very little information on twins
and the pregnancy of twins. I have been feeling sick
as a parrot but ravenously hungry at the same time.
If I had not read this book I would have been trying
to cut back on what I ate since all the material for
singleton pregnancies says you need to eat only the
same amount as normal. The book is also so easy to read
and refer to. So far I've found nothing like it on the
market.

Raising Twins : What
Parent Want to Know (And What Twins Want to Tell Them)
A reader from UK wrote:
If you want a detailed guide on how to survive your
first year with your twins, this is not the book for
you. There are more suitable titles available, which
cover feeding twins, sleeping arrangements etc. The
focus is very much on how to bring up your twins as
individuals, and as such it is very good. It's written
in a clear, easy-to-read style. There are no magical
answers, but lots of useful suggestions. If you don't
like books with a very US slant, avoid this one. It's
easy to read, unlike some US material, but the section
on schooling refers exclusively to the US school system,
and the interviews with twin families (which I liked)
are all with US families. Other than that, I am already
finding it very useful - infact we have already implemented
some of the sugestions for our family (3 year old daughter
and 9 month old identical boy twins).

The Joy of Twins and Other
Multiple Births : Having, Raising, and Loving Babies
Who Arrive in Groups
A reader from Massachusetts
wrote: Fortunately, someone loaned
me the book and I didn't have to buy it myself. I'm
only nine weeks pregnant with twins, as a result of
fertility treatment, and for my questions, the book
is basically useless. There are approximately five pages
dealing with pre-delivery issues, and those pages are
mostly dedicated to the question of who has multiples
and why. I'm sure it will be a decent resouce seven
months from now, but I need a source that tells me what
I should do today. If you're fewer than eight months
pregnant with multiples, I wouldn't recommend this book
at all. I wish I had a good recommendation for you,
but I'm still looking myself. The Elizabeth Noble book,
which someone also thankfully loaned to me, has a very
little bit more about the pregnancy with multiples,
but it's not much better.

Mothering Twins : From
Hearing the News to Beyond the Terrible Twos
A reader from Japan
wrote: I found this book to be
very staright forward and It helped me by not "sugar"
coating things. I read it when I first found out, and
I read it again as a refresher in the last weeks of
my pregnancy. After my twins were born I thought wow....my
labor was by the "book"
A reader from Chicago
wrote: I enjoyed the practical
aspect of this book although I felt the women had very
similar experiences and thus didn't cover a broad enough
spectrum. The sections on how to actually feed two infants
at once was great and I felt like a sister was filling
me in on all the little details you don't read in the
usual "expert" books. I would say this book is invaluable
to first time parents and quite useful to repeat parents.
Great job!

Mothering Multiples
: Breastfeeding & Caring for Twins or More
A reader from San Francisco
wrote: This is the finest book
on multiple pregnancy, birth, and parenting on the market. This
book should be placed in the hands of every woman the
moment she discovers she is expecting multiples. The
wisdom, insight, and real-life situations closely match
the reality of having multiples. My twins are over 2
years old and I found quite a bit of good information
to help me.I have been researching books for parents
of multiples and this is by far the best book I have
come across. There is a good deal of fantastic information
on breastfeeding, but there is also incredible information
on pregnancy issues, like preventing prematurity, as
well. In addition, Ms. Gromada has information on items
you do and don't need with multiples, which could have
saved me quite a bit of money! I only wish this book
would have been available when I was pregnant.
